Rail
We develop and implement new ways to improve and maintain rail infrastructure, helping to provide the public with safer, more affordable and efficient rail services.
Increasing demand, ageing infrastructure and years of under investment - these are all issues the rail industry must face and resolve. Both Network Rail and London Underground are under pressure to deliver improved performance. We have developed a range of services to help them achieve this.
For example, we are helping Network Rail to examine, assess and manage it's thousands of structures, such as bridges and buildings. We have five long-term managed services contracts for this work. We also have two ten-year Technical Frameworks with Network Rail. These national framework agreements cover a wide range of project and consultancy work, including feasibility studies, investigations, design, strategic consultancy and asset management modelling.
We also help physically improve Network Rail's structural assets. Our use of advanced composite materials strenghtens and rehabilitates older structures, for example. This pioneering work won the prestigious Modern Railways Award for Innovation in 2003.
The London Underground is an increasingly important area for us. The PPP contracts for the upgrade of the underground use asset condition as an important measurement of the performance of the new infracos. We have been assisting London Underground with the development of its Asset Condition Assessment and Certification process, providing an objective measure of the condition and capability of it's civil engineering assets.
